Captive Care: The Royal Gramma is a hardy, beautifully colored marine fish that tends to do well even for the beginner aquarist. They are generally non-aggressive, but will viciously defend a preferred hiding place. A vertical reef rock wall or an overhang will replicate this great fish's natural habitat very well.
Your tank can house groups of these fish, but certainly do not overcrowd them in your tank. Two of these fantastic fish should do just fine in a 55-gallon tank. Composing your group of one medium or large fish, and then adding two or more smaller specimens is Ideal. On average, males are larger than females, so choosing one large adult and several small ones will increase the chances of creating a reproductive unit. These amazing little fish will build nests and spawn in captivity!
